Who am I?

I’m Rosie, 20, and a student of PR and communications at Leeds Business School, a part of Leeds Beckett University.

I am currently completing my year in industry at the development charity CAFOD, and have spent the last few years building my portfolio of work through short and longer term placements. I have undertaken both in-house and agency placements: at national charity Heart Research UK, marketing agency Clearsilver and design agency Supremo. In my experience as a volunteer, I have learned a lot: running the social media for a newly formed charity with no budget, working with the media in my role as a young ambassador for Meningitis Now, and building my confidence and leadership skills through Girlguiding UK.

I believe that retaining your personality as a professional is important in building long-term and meaningful relationships with clients and colleagues. I am a strong communicator and through leading a society during my time at university, the value of teamwork and leadership has become apparent to me. A self-motivated, organised and interested individual, being reliable and punctual are two traits I pride myself on.

Working within a digital setting at Supremo, I have ensured media coverage and written content for their blog, building it up. As well as this, I have used my research and events management skills to help organise events with Heart Research UK. Through Meningitis Now, I have had first-hand experience of lobbying and seen the power that campaigns can have in initiating change, which is where my real passion for PR began.

My long term career goal is to work as a freelance communicator who specialises in supporting third sector organisations with their PR activities. I am engaged in the industry and always looking to further my skill set, as while I feel I have a strong knowledge base thanks to my degree course, I appreciate that there is no limit to learning and there are always new opportunities to embrace.

I live in Leeds, sometimes Manchester, and love exploring both places.

This blog is a space to track the journey to becoming a PR practitioner, to speak my mind, share my opinions and journal my adventures.

Welcome to my mind!
